19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his initial championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging period, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-term mentor Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface from that period of 2023.

Victory also means he has secured 21 victories at 21 different tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to get a championship is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his previous six finals, including in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and frequent emotional displays on court had caused some to question if his capacity to play at the top level was concluded.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

Both players swapped service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden tour championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

The opponent defended 4 early break points in a close third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he secured victory with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
